The Advisory Charter
Purpose
The Advisory Board is a nine-seat, non-fiduciary circle. It does not govern the Mindful Diving Institute, hold its assets or direct its staff. It guards the scope of the standard and sharpens its science.
Guarding scope means saying no: no therapy claims, no medical treatment claims, no drift into practices that sit outside a diver's agency standards or dive plan. Sharpening science means insisting that what we assert can be measured, and that what we measure is published whatever it shows.
Commitments
- Terms run two years, renewable once by mutual agreement.
- Two plenary meetings each year, plus attendance at The Current where possible.
- Advisors read the Standard before each plenary and may propose changes to any chapter.
- The Safety & Dive Medicine seat may require the Institute to pause or withdraw any practice on safety grounds; the Institute complies first and discusses afterwards.
- Advice is advisory. The Institute may decline it, and records in the minutes when it does and why.
- Seats are unpaid. Reasonable travel to plenaries is reimbursed.
- Any advisor may resign at any time, without explanation, and the seat returns to OPEN on the published page.
Disclosure
- Each advisor declares, on taking a seat and annually thereafter, any commercial interest in dive training, dive travel, equipment, retreats or contemplative-services businesses.
- Declared interests are published alongside the advisor's name. An advisor recuses from any decision touching a declared interest.
- No advisor's affiliation implies their institution's endorsement of Mindful Diving. Public mentions of organisations express admiration and alignment, not formal partnership, until both sides say otherwise.
- The Institute names no organisation as a partner without that organisation's written agreement.
- This charter sits under the ethics chapter of the published Standard; where the two disagree, the Standard governs.
