Ocean sounds

No loop, no download, no ads and no end. The sound is built in your browser: filtered noise under a slow swell, adjustable until it resembles the water you remember.

Preparing the water…

Three ways to use it

  • To fall asleep

Deep water, low volume, no screen. Let the swell be slower than your breath and follow it downward.

  • To settle before something

Slow swell for three minutes with the eyes low. This is the surface form of what divers do before entry.

  • To work without noise

Shore break, quiet, behind whatever you are doing. It masks conversation without asking for attention.

For land, deck or shore. Never during a dive and never combined with breath-holding. Slow, continuous breathing throughout.

When you want a voice with it

The Ocean Within is a free ten-minute guided meditation with the full script published. It is the natural next step from this page.

Common questions

Why do ocean sounds help people sleep?

Broadband sound with a slow, predictable rise and fall masks the sudden noises that fragment sleep, and gives attention something undemanding to rest on. The rhythm matters more than the realism: a swell arriving every twelve seconds settles a nervous system that a busy recording does not.

Is this a recording?

No. The sound is generated live in your browser from filtered noise under a slow swell, so it never loops and never ends. Nothing is downloaded and nothing is streamed.

Can I leave it playing all night?

Yes, as long as the tab stays open and your device does not sleep. Keep the volume low — comfortable listening is quieter than most people set it.

Do I need to be a diver?

Not at all. Most people who use this page have never dived. If you are curious about where the calm goes next, the ten-minute guided meditation The Ocean Within is also free.

Can I use this while diving?

No. This is for land, deck or shore. Never combine any practice with breath-holding on scuba, and never let anything compete with attention during descents, ascents or gas management.
