For certified divers

Your certification taught you to dive safely. MD-1 teaches you to be present.

Mindful Diving™ is not another agency. It is a certified layer that adds to the certification you already hold — PADI, SSI, CMAS, RAID or any other.

Safety first

Every practice fits entirely within your existing agency standards and dive plan. Slow, continuous breathing only — never breath-holding, skip-breathing or hypoventilation on scuba. No exercise sits in task-critical phases. Safety is the first mindfulness practice.

How MD-1 layers on

  1. 01

    Keep your certification

Whatever agency taught you to dive stays the authority on your safety, your limits and your dive plan. Nothing here changes that.

  2. 02

    Study MD-1 online

Self-paced lessons on attention, breathing within safe limits, buddy agreements and the practice arc — with knowledge checks and a final exam.

  3. 03

    Take it into the water

Practise on ordinary dives with your usual buddy or center. Log the sessions; a Mindful Diving Center™ or instructor verifies them.

  4. 04

    Earn a verifiable credential

MD-1 Mindful Diver™, with a public verification code anyone can check — and a pathway open all the way to MD-5.

Common questions

Does Mindful Diving replace my PADI, SSI, CMAS or RAID certification?

No. Mindful Diving™ is complementary to, and independent of, the diving agencies. Every practice fits entirely within your existing agency standards and dive plan. You keep diving on your agency certification; MD-1 adds a certified layer of presence on top of it.

Do I need to be a certified diver to take MD-1?

Yes. MD-1 Mindful Diver™ assumes an entry-level open water certification from a recognised agency. If you are not certified yet, get certified with your local center first, then layer MD-1 on top.

Is any of this breath-holding or breathing technique on scuba?

Never. On scuba the practice uses slow, continuous breathing only — no breath-holding, skip-breathing or hypoventilation. No exercise is placed in task-critical phases such as descents, ascents or gas management. Safety is the first mindfulness practice.

How long does MD-1 take, and what do I get?

MD-1 is self-paced eLearning with knowledge checks and a final exam, followed by water sessions logged with a Mindful Diving Center™ or instructor. You receive a verifiable MD-1 Mindful Diver™ credential with a public verification code.

Is Mindful Diving therapy or medical treatment?

No. Mindful Diving is an education and certification standard reviewed by the Safety & Dive Medicine Board. It is not therapy and not a medical treatment.

Presence runs deep.

MD-1 Mindful Diver™ is the entry point. Studied online, practised on the dives you already make, verified publicly.
