Program standards

One spec sheet per level. Everything a diver, a professional or a center needs to answer “what exactly does this level require?” in ten seconds — printable, and identical in both languages.

MD-1

MD-1 Mindful Diver™

≈ 6–8 h online · 2 supervised water sessions

Prerequisites

An entry-level scuba certification in current standing from any recognised agency (CMAS, NAUI, PADI, RAID, SSI or equivalent).

Medical fitness to dive per that agency's screening, and no open medical contraindication.

Minimum age 15, or 12 with the agency's junior provisions and a guardian's consent.

No prior Mindful Diving level required. This is the door.

Online curriculum scope

≈ 6–8 h online · 2 supervised water sessions

After MD-1 you can run your own arrival, readiness scan and debrief on any dive.

Self-paced and never expires: roughly 6–8 hours, in the order and at the pace you choose.

Water requirements

Sessions: 2

Water Session 1 — Readiness & first presence

Water Session 2 — Integration

  • ARRIVE led aloud before kitting up, as a pre-briefed and optional practice.
  • Readiness scan shared with colours — green, amber, red — and the answer respected.
  • Buddy agreement made with the five prompts, inside the agency's buddy check.
  • Five-channel scan carried out underwater as briefed, never during a task-critical phase.
  • One still minute at a stable point, when the situation allowed it.
  • FFLN debrief completed at the surface interval.

Every item is a pre-briefed practice offered inside the dive plan, optional at every step. Slow, continuous breathing only — never breath-holding or skip-breathing on scuba.

Who may verify

MDI PRO-1 and PRO-2 professionals, with an instructor or assistant-instructor rating.

A divemaster or guide may water-verify; anything they initiate goes to the Institute's co-sign queue.

Any Certified Mindful Diving Center™ — Seed, Branch or Reef.

Certification requirements

Final exam: 80% and every safety-critical question correct. Reviewing missed items is offered, not required. Attempts are unlimited.

Dual-signature water verification: the professional ticks the canonical checklist and the diver confirms it from their own phone. No confirmation, no credential.

Every online lesson read and every module knowledge check passed before the exam opens.

Supervision

All in-water activity stays inside the diver's own agency training, certification and experience limits, and inside the dive plan of the professional leading it. The Mindful Diving Institute verifies presence practices only; it never certifies diving skills, depth, gas or supervision ratings. Safety is the first mindfulness practice.

Recommended conditions

A relaxed profile, well within the comfort and certification of every diver present: benign conditions, unhurried timing, no task loading beyond the level, and no mindfulness prompt during a task-critical phase — descents, ascents, gas management or any emerging problem.

Certification issued & verification

Credential issued: MD-1 Mindful Diver™, with a verifiable code and a digital card.

Anyone may check the code on the public verification page; it shows level, date and who verified the water.

The credential does not expire. Currency is kept with recent water, not with a fee.
